Have you been holding off your next long-term travel adventure because of the crazy costs of accommodations around the world? Maybe you just can’t score that affordable yet comfortable Airbnb, or all the reasonably priced hotels are booked. You may want to consider another option: Trusted Housesitters.

We know what you’re thinking. Why would I want to house sit while I’m on vacation or the trip of a lifetime? Well, because it will save you money, connects you with locals, and give you the chance to see how life is authentically lived in your destination.

Trusted Housesitters is an online platform and cellular application that allows you to sign up, make an account, and search for places to stay around the world for free in exchange for looking after a home or pets.

This gives penny-pinching travelers the opportunity to stay in beautiful homes and apartments, interact with furry friends, and get tips from locals on what to do in the area.

However, to make yourself a truly “trusted” housesitter, you’ll have to boost your profile with references and ID and background checks to ensure you are a safe option for your hosts. Once you’ve made your account, start searching housesits around the world, choose one, and write an application message to the family, couple, or individual looking for help. Once you start applying, make sure you are prepped to consistently communicate with and be interviewed by your prospective hosts.

Once you’re in, you could dog sit for a labradoodle in southern Spain and explore the beaches and cities of the Andalusia region in the afternoons; cat sit for a tabby in Costa Rica and go surfing every morning; or settle into an apartment in a big city and enjoy daily walks exploring the surrounding neighborhoods.

With the money you’ll be saving on accommodations you’ll be able to visit even more destinations, spend those dollars on a nice meals, special experiences, or just leave them in the bank for your next adventure.
