With Global Entry on “pause,” and TSA PreCheck subject to suspension at any time, travelers are asking: “What can I do to avoid long lines at security and customs and immigration checkpoints?” If you are looking for alternatives, here are your best choices:
CLEAR+ is a privately owned and operated company that provides members with expedited ID check and screening at many airports. While waiting in the TSA PreCheck line, we have often marveled at the high text scanners and no wait time that CLEAR+ members seem to enjoy. Memberships start at $209, but discounts are offered for certain Airline frequent fliers and credit card holders.
Mobile Passport Control (MPC) is currently the only alternative to Global Entry. It is part of the Department of Homeland Security and it provides (at press time) shorter waited times at customs and immigration checkpoints, and a free, easy-to-use app. It is also available at most major U.S. airports.
