The U.S. Embassy in London has issued an alert warning Americans to “exercise increased caution” during visits to Jewish and American sites in the U.K. and across Europe noting “recent attacks and threats targeting Jewish and American institutions in the United Kingdom and Europe.”
According to TravelPulse, the alert follows several antisemitic attacks in London and Amsterdam. One such incident was an arson strike targeting ambulances tied to a Jewish charity in London on March 23. In Amsterdam, an explosion at a Jewish school damaged the structure, but fortunately did not affect any people.
The embassy is also advising that U.S. travelers remain alert in general, beyond specific cultural or historical sites. This includes tourist hotspots, expat neighborhoods, and places of worship. Also recommended is reviewing personal security plans and emergency procedures and staying tuned with local media for safety updates.
In March, the Department of State issued a global travel advisory for Americans, warning of danger due to ongoing conflict and violence in the Middle East. In this report, the department also warned of “periodic airspace closures” and potential issues at “U.S. diplomatic facilities.”
Travelers can also register for the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive real-time updates about local happenings and safety concerns. It also allows for U.S. embassies to more easily contact you in case of an emergency.
