Five new Acela high-speed trains will service Amtrak’s Northeast corridor, taking passengers to major cities including New York City, Boston, Washington, DC and other common Northeast routes, according to CT Insider

According to Amtrak, the new trains are marked with a ‘NextGen’ tag on Amtrak.com and in the Amtrak app, making the models easier to identify while booking. The New Acela models will travel at a maximum speed of 160 miles per hour and will feature a tilt system, allowing for smoother and quieter rides.

On board, 5G WiFi and at-seat chargers are perfect for busy commuters, digital nomads, and podcast and eBook listeners. It will also be difficult to get off at the wrong stop as clear digitized signs and boards throughout the train indicate location, stops, and arrival times.

Also on board, Cafe Acela offers an elevated dining experience with fresh food and beverages. Additional food cart service comes to you so you can stay seated after a long day or ahead of a big trip. New interiors offer brightly lit carriages and comfortable seating with an emphasis on leg room, making passenger journeys less achy and more enjoyable.

On an Acela train, journeys between New York City and Washington DC. will take just under three hours, nearly cutting down the average travel time by an hour.

Amtrak’s news release indicates the new trains can accommodate 27% more seats per departure. Through 2027, Amtrak will see 28 brand-new trains offering rail services, plus expanded weekday and weekend schedules. The new fleet was assembled at Alstom’s facility in Hornell, NY using components from more than 180 suppliers across 29 states, creating approximately 15,000 U.S. jobs.

Travelers between major U.S. cities can book trips on Acela models on Aug. 28 via the Amtrak app or Amtrak.com.
