Norway is an idyllic destination for Northern Lights viewing, and now travelers can hop aboard the world’s first panoramic night train, designed to give travelers unforgettable views of the Aurora Borealis. The new train, the Midnight Aurora Route, will combine luxury sustainability, and breathtaking scenery to create a seamless viewing experience for passengers. Onboard features include heated cabins and reclining seats facing the night sky. The route operates during peak aurora season between late-August and mid-April.
According to NDTV, travelers can also enjoy English-speaking guides, photography tips, and a short documentary on the wild wonder of nature. Plus, get real-time scientific insights, thanks to sensors that monitor geomagnetic activity and cloud cover to display on multimedia screens for passengers.
The route starts at Narvik Railway Station located in Ofotbanen, Norway. This station is the country’s northernmost post sitting north of the Arctic Circle according to Visit Norway. The train journeys along the Ofoten Line traversing through snow-capped mountains and cascading fjords. Stops along the way are located at Bjornfjell and Katterat Stations where passengers can get off the train and enjoy bonfires, hot beverages, and storytelling.
Not only does the Midnight Aurora Route offer a curated experience for Northern Lights-viewing, it does so with environmentally-friendly methods in mind. The train itself is powered by Norway’s renewable hydroelectric grid, ensuring a smaller carbon footprint. The route also utilizes existing railway lines, avoiding new track development.
Tickets are priced around €130 per person, making it a more accessible luxury travel experience. Book your trip on the official Norwegian Travel website now!
