This year, Amsterdam celebrates 25 years of marriage equality for citizens of the Netherlands in a “unique atmosphere of freedom, creativity and tolerance,” by hosting WorldPride between July 25th and August 8th. For WorldPride Amsterdam 2026, the festivities will focus on unity, tolerance, connectedness and love. To symbolize this year’s festival, the city has chosen a kaleidoscope, meant to pay homage to the Netherlands’ rich tapestry of diverse identities and cultures.
In 2026, Amsterdam celebrates not just WorldPride, but 15 years of the Declaration of Amsterdam (WorkPlace Pride), 30 years of Pride celebrations in the city, 55 years of abolition of the Dutch Penal Code which made the age of consent for homosexual relationships higher than that of heterosexual relationships, and 80 years of COC Netherlands, a civil rights group advocating for LGBTQ+ freedoms.
The main events at WorldPride Amsterdam 2026 will include an opening concert, open air film festival, Pride park, WorldPride village, street parties, concerts, marches, and conferences.
Where To Stay In Amsterdam
In recent years, Amsterdam has made changes to accommodation laws to combat the effects of mass tourism. This has included halting the development of new hotels and decreasing the amount of overnight stays permitted per year.
Just last year, a political group filed a suit against the city urging officials to do more to combat mass tourism, despite the city’s promises to put a cap on visitor stays at 18 million in a 2021 bill. However, the city still struggles to enforce these protective measures, and in 2024 overnight stays exceeded 23 million.
Also in 2021, Amsterdam required that short-term rentals only be able to rent their entire home for a total of 30 nights per year. On top of that, only four guests maximum were allowed in short-term rentals, according to Travel + Leisure.
Moreover, it’s important to travel to Amsterdam with an awareness of the city’s sentiments around mass tourism, especially when attending a highly anticipated event like WorldPride. Before you book a short-term rental, check out your options for hotels and inns, and try to frequent less popular areas.
