As the pandemic finally starts to come to an end, Americans are once again dreaming of future travel. The vacation rental website KOALA has released a study that lists the top-searched destinations on their website. They isolated search results originating from America to create their ranking of the top 10 destinations Americans plan to visit in the future. From tropical getaways to ancient islands, here are the places Americans are dreaming about.

    Iceland

It’s no wonder why Iceland made the Top 10 list. The island nation is an outdoors paradise, loaded with epic hiking trails, hot springs, the northern lights, and tons of natural landmarks that served as the setting for Game of Thrones. But the island is more than meets the eye. Iceland is also filled with excellent resorts, and the capital, Reykjavik, is a cultural and artistic hub that attracts visitors from around the globe.

    Bahamas

    224,200 searches

From towering resorts like Atlantis to cruise ports like Bimini, and even an island of swimming pigs…the Bahamas are a world-famous Caribbean destination that’s been capturing the imagination of travelers for decades. Best of all, because of how close it is to Florida, the travel time is incredibly short, so short in fact, that you can even take a boat from Ft. Lauderdale or Miami.

    Costa Rica

    230,400 searches

Many consider Costa Rica to be heaven on Earth. Lush jungles. Towering volcanoes. Gorgeous coastlines. And tons of eco-friendly resorts to top it all off. What can’t you do in Costa Rica? From spotting Jaguars in Corcovado National Park, to gliding through the jungle in a hot air balloon, or even lounging beachside with a nice drink at a luxurious hotel, Costa Rica is a destination that needs to be on every traveler’s bucket list.

    Aruba

Aruba is famous for its white sand beaches and its wonderful breeze, thanks to the trade winds. But it’s also an excellent destination because it falls south of the hurricane belt, meaning there are no storms to worry about, and you’re almost guaranteed sunny weather. The island is also loaded with caves and rugged hills and cliffs. It’s not your average Caribbean island, and that’s exactly why travelers love it so much.

    Greece

    247,000 searches

Greece is a world-renowned destination. It’s incredible to just think of just how important this one nation is. Where else can you find ancient archeological wonders, gorgeous Mediterranean islands, quaint small towns, and a powerful and important culinary tradition…all in one country? Greece literally helped build the modern world. For that alone, it’s a worthy destination. But add to that all of the stunning landscapes, and you have a must-visit destination that can’t be missed.

    Jamaica

    269,100 searches

Thanks to an excellent exchange rate, Jamaica remains a popular travel destination because you can get a great bang for your buck. Add to that the fact that the island has a diverse range of ecosystems, including The Blue and John Crow Mountains National Park, a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its endangered “cloud forest” biome. There are  also numerous amazing beaches, stunning waterfalls, and inland rivers that give life to numerous tropical species of flora and fauna.

    Japan

    288,700 searches

With Japan being number 4 on the list, it’s clear to see that American travelers are itching to return to metoplitan areas again once the pandemic is over. The cities of Japan are filled with towering skyscrapers, ancient temples, ramen houses, and annual cherry blossom festivals. It’s a country with a distinguished cuisine, unique culture, and a gorgeous landscape. Best of all, Japan offers a wide range of travel opportunities—everything from Tokyo Disney to rural mountain hot springs.

    Maldives

While some travelers are looking to return to cities, others are looking for an escape. They’re looking to go really, really far away from society. And the Maldives are the perfect getaway for anyone looking to leave the daily grind behind. This archipelago of extremely small islands and atolls just south of India has long been a tropical playground for the rich and famous. It’s the perfect destination for anyone looking to see nothing but endless oceans and swaying palms.

    Mexico

    476,690 searches

Mexico is loaded with excellent food, massive amounts of history, and endless travel options. Inland towns like San Miguel de Allende have long been a haven for artists and culinary consiouers, while the rainforsts of the Yucitan peninsula are perfect for the adventurer, and cruise ports like Cozumel offer family-friendly fun both cruisers and resort guests. Mexico’s promiximity to America and great exchange rate also help keep the nation a popular tourist destination.

    Puerto Rico

Beaches, cities, resorts, rainforets, yachting, and more…all without having to exchange your money! Puerto Rico is America’s little slice of the Caribbean and visitors have been flocking there for sunshine and relaxation for over 100 years. Add to this the fact hat Puerto Rico is rapidly becoming an extremely inclusive and welcoming island, and you have a destination that’s perfect for every kind of traveler. You might even like it so much that you’ll end up like the thousands of other Americans who have decided to call the island home.
